Find out what the team in Scotland have been doing on behalf of members this week

This week has been a busy week for the team in Scotland, who work hard on behalf of you, our members, to represent and support the social work profession.

 

National Director Alison Bavidge attends the weekly Pandemic Response in Adults Social Care meeting with a wide range of government, health and independent stakeholders. This week, we asked that any supporting guidance around the COVID-19 tiers system relating to social care and social work (including care homes) reflects the range of settings we work in and the different roles across the sector. 

We met with Neale Hanvey MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath who sits on the Westminster Select Committee for Health and Social Care.  There was a positive discussion about the differences between England and Scotland in terms of approaches to social work and social care and the impact of poverty and austerity on people who are struggling.

We launched our new Question of the Month, to enable us to better represent you and understand how the issues of the day are affecting you. You can find the October Question, here. 

Planning for the Scottish Parliament elections in May 2021 began this week, as the team begin to build a "Manifesto for Social Work" in Scotland. 

Public Health Scotland published this report, into Hospital to Care Home Discharges during covid-19. The SASW team are looking into responding to this over the coming weeks.

The team finalised our plans for Book Week Scotland 2020 and launched our Poetry Competition.
