Find out what the team in Scotland have been doing on behalf of members this week

We shared our response to the The Drug Deaths Taskforce consultation on the topic of drug law reform. The review will consider whether the Misuse of Drugs 1971 Act has an impact on proposals to provide public health harm reduction services or on the availability of diversion from arrest or court. As part of our World Social Work Week 2021 planning, the team met and discussed plans for our Challenging Racism Roundtable, as well as confirmed the attendance of the fifth and final candidate for our Scottish Parliamentary Hustings. With technical support from Lisa, Sarah delivered the second training session on Safe & Together™ Model, which enhances how social workers can support survivors of domestic abuse and their families. 

Emily and Karin engaged in discussions with the Scottish Government ahead of the launch of the public consultation on the regulation of Child Welfare Reporters, an issue that the team have lobbied extensively on, to ensure the best interests of children and young people are at the forefront moving forward. 

Karin supported the facilitation of the Adults Community of Practice on the topic of Social Work identity. 

Sarah met with the Rural Social Work group to plan next steps for events, with details of a new webinar in March coming soon. The next webinar in the series will take place on the 25th of February between 13:00 and 14:00 and is an opportunity to discuss  working with domestic abuse & sexual violence in rural settings. Lisa and Sarah began planning for an event to mark International Women’s Day on 8th March, in partnership with Scottish Women’s Aid. More details on this event will follow soon, so keep an eye on our social media platforms.
