Conversations about the implications of the Independent Review of Adult Social Care Report were underway this week. Alison spoke at a Unison webinar in a panel including Gemma Moncrieff from the frontline of social care, and Nick Kempe who drafted the response to the Review by Common Weal. SASW also held a members' event to explore the issues and to ensure the team engage with you to get your views in ways that suit you.
A meeting with Jeremy Balfour MSP was productive and he committed to supporting a CPG for social work should he be re-elected.
The team clarified the agenda for our ‘Challenging racism in social work’ roundtable on 24th March. The two main topics coming out of the survey responses will build the body of discussion at the event.
We marked International Women’s Day with a webinar co-hosted with Scottish Women’s Aid. Speakers Dr Marsha Scott and Professor Jane Monckton-Smith, exploring risk assessment in domestic abuse. Professor Monckton-Smith introduced her 8 stage theoretical framework for assessing homicide risk in cases of domestic abuse and stalking.
Sarah and Alison met with CELCIS, Scottish Women’s Aid and Safe & Together to look at how we can support implementation of the Safe & Together ™ Model in Scotland. Planning is underway for SASW’s next training in the model – dates in May to be published soon.
Sarah & Karin spoke to final year students at Robert Gordon University as they prepare to begin their social work careers.
