Find out what the team in Scotland have been doing on behalf of members this week

The team met with Iriss and Social Work Scotland to review the joint event "Relationship-based Practice in a Digital World" which we delivered a couple of weeks ago. We'll be using what we have learned to keep the conversation about the ways in which technology can support positive relationships and to plan potential future events.  Thanks to all who came and gave us feedback.

At the Justice Board Covid Sub-group, Alison welcomed Ministerial intentions to draw together the range of work that has been happening for women in the justice system.  It is vital that this recognises the care and support needs that so many people in the justice system have and links to the National Care Service programme so ensure everyone can access their rights to health, social work and social care.  

We joined a collective of organisations calling for an urgent summit, hosted by the Scottish Government, to address the impact of Covid-19 on disabled people in Scotland, by writing a letter to the First Minister. You can read the letter, here. 

Karin took part in a review meeting of the NQSW conference 2021 with our eyes already fixed on the NQSW conference 2022 which will be hosted by the Open University. Feedback from participants for this year’s first virtual NQSW conference with 322 students and early career social workers having registered was very positive. 

As members of the CELCIS Brothers and Sisters Advisory Board, we were invited to comment on the draft guidance. This guidance, in line with The Promise, is hoping to achieve a culture change in the value and importance we place on sibling relationships.

Karin held a Job Interview Skills training for early career social workers to help them in their transition from graduates to social workers.

Sarah facilitated a live session of Safe & Together ™ blended CORE training.

Plans progressed for our annual SASW conference, including meeting with potential speakers, planning content and working on securing sponsorship. 

We met with the University of Edinburgh and the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights, to start planning a joint event for Black History Month.
