Social work recognised in New Years Honours List 2024
The 2024 Honours List celebrates extraordinary professionals, volunteers and members of the public across the UK, marking their contributions in public life.
An array of individuals from social work and social care are represented in this year’s list, with some highlighted below (please contact us if we have missed a recipient from the social work community).
BASW member and Adult Safeguarding Lead, Shabnam Ahmed, who has developed a framework for antiracist supervision with BASW’s Black and Ethnic Minority Professionals’ Symposium, received an MBE in recognition of her work on anti-racist practice and supervision. Whilst Children’s practitioner, Kirstie Baughan was recognised for her work supporting unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and refugees, both in social work practice and as a volunteer for Care4Calais.
