Survey: Government consultation on proposed reforms to Mental Health Act
The UK Government has recently launched a consultation on its proposed reforms to the Mental Health Act 1983. In order to help prepare BASW’s response, we have collated the quantitative questions from the Government’s consultation below. This survey should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.
The Mental Health Act 1983 covers both England and Wales. If you are a social worker in the field of mental health working in either England or Wales, we would be grateful if you would answer the questions in this survey. Not all of the proposals addressed here would apply to Wales – some of them, for example, have already been covered in the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010. More information on how the consultation relates to Wales can be found here.
This survey does not cover all the questions asked in the survey, only those that provide quantitative data. There may be issues not covered by these quantitative questions that are raised in the qualitative questions of the Government’s consultation.
Full information on the consultation, including background on the proposals addressed below, can be found here. You can also complete the whole government consultation, as an individual or in an organisational capacity.

The survey will close at 23.59 on Sunday 28 February
Please do not complete this survey more than once. We welcome BASW members to log-in prior to completing the survey – but this is not essential. All responses will be treated anonymously and in confidence.
