SWU Assignment student essay competition will award £500 to each winning entry

Submit your essay by 5pm on 24th June 2022 for the chance to win one of four grants

Each year the Social Workers Union (SWU) runs a World Social Work Day SWU Assignment student essay competition in which we pose questions about current issues in social work. It’s time again for students to get writing because the four most compelling 750-1000 word arguments this year will win a grant of £500 each.

This year’s question is: Considering the current negative TV and general media portrayals of social workers what action can be taken to change this?

The competition is open to all social work students studying in UK universities. The entry period will close at 5pm on 24th June 2022 so be sure to submit your essay before then!

We are also thrilled to announce that Shahid Naqvi, Editor of Professional Social Work magazine, is a member of the panel that will be judging all completed assignments.

“My advice to all social work students is to make sure that you join a union. Hopefully you will never need our services but if you do then you can be confident that advice, support, and representation from SWU will be from a fellow social worker who understands the needs of frontline workers.”
