UK Parliament Human Rights Committee launches consultation on Bill of Rights Bill
The UK Parliament Joint Committee on Human Rights (JCHR) has launched a call for evidence as part of the scrutiny process the committee will be undertaking on the Bill of Rights Bill.
As part of this call for evidence, the JCHR has published a short questionnaire to collect public views on the Bill of Rights. We are encouraging BASW members to complete the questionnaire so that the Committee has the perspective of social workers when they scrutinise the Bill.
The Bill was published last month following the UK Government’s consultation on reform of the Human Rights Act.
The Bill is designed to replace the Human Rights Act and is extraordinarily complex. It is not user-friendly and therefore it's more difficult for people not working in law-related professions to understand how it changes the way in which claims of human rights breaches will be dealt with by the courts.
- For members who wish to submit a longer response to the JCHR, you can do so via the UK Parliament website.
- For more information about what the Bill changes, you can read the British Institute of Human Rights’ submission to the JCHR.
